WE HAVE DEVELOPED A SOLAR TECHNOLOGY FOR HEATING BUILDINGS WITH A MUCH HIGHER HEAT GAIN, MUCH LOWER HEAT LOSS, BETTER HEAT TRANSFER, A MUCH FASTER RESPONSE TIME, SIMPLER INSTALLATION, INHERENT RELIABILITY, MINIMAL MAINTENANCE, NO OVERHEATING, A SMALLER ROOF FOOTPRINT AND MINIMAL WIND LOADING, ALL FOR A LOWER COST THAN FOSSIL FUELS OR OTHER SOLAR TECHNOLOGY.
THE FORGOTTEN SOLAR
One third to one half of fossil fuel use is for heat, yet with existing technology the U.S. solar building heating market is insignificant. Global warming, environmental damage and energy costs cannot be mitigated without including the solar heating of buildings. Global Warming is here with us now. We have been in collective denial for too long. It’s time for taking actions that will make a real difference.
THE NEED FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
Water is mostly used in sloar heating collectors but it comes with a laundry list of problems that include: Overheating, Freezing, Leaking, Water Damage, System & Retrofit Damage, Anti-Freeze Maintenance, Heat Exchanger and Pipe Loss, Compulsive Collector Covering For Repair & Summer Overheat Prevention, Unrealizable Tax Credits, No Free Energy When Financed, a High Wind Load, Oversized Collector Footprint, Flat Roof Installation Code Problems, High Cost and Low Efficiency.
Existing hot air solar collectors share many of these problems. Water has 3,000 times the heat transfer capacity of air so existing hot air solar collectors are too inefficient and costly to be practical.
We have inherently designed out the laundry list of problems associated with the solar heating of buildings. We have achieved a system operating efficiency up to 2 times higher (4-5 times higher than solar electric) for as little as 30% of the cost of legacy solar heating technology and for the first time offering 20+ years of free heating energy, even with the cost of financing.
We have figured out how to acheive high heat transfer, low heat loss and no overheating with heated air delivered directly into the building from the collector array, without heat exchanger or pipe heat loss. We offer a practical collector array size, weight and wind load. The installed system cost is low enough to effectively utilize tax credits and accelerated depreciation.
Our patented solar technology utilizes the optical principals of diffuse light concentration (DLC) and seasonal load adaptation (SLA). DLC increases solar concentration, which greatly reduces heat loss, while increasing efficiency, without the need to track the sun. Solar SLA reflector curvature progressively cuts off light to the receiver with the seasonal rising of the sun, preventing the collector from overheating in summertime, but still collecting enough sunlight for hot water preheat.
PRACTICAL STUFF
We will be selling our hot air solar collectors to system installers, who will sell Solar Heating Systems to building owners, to reduce heating bills by 30% to 70%. The Solar Heating System will pay for itself in 2 to 6 years with energy cost savings, including the cost of financing.

FOR INSTALLERS
Our high efficiency, low cost hot air solar collectors are easy to install with our integrated mounting and duct systems. With 50% to 100% higher system operating efficiency, only two thirds to one half the collector area is needed. This results in up to a 70% installed system cost reduction. With lower heat loss and faster response time, up to two additional hours a day of useable heat is delivered. Our systems have inherently high reliability, low maintenance and high desirability for the building owner, without the dozen problems that heating buildings with other solar collectors would bring. We offer the opportunity for a greatly expanded market, with higher profit potential, larger projects, lower CAC, repeat contacts and customers and access to low roof load large flat roof buildings. We are directly competitive with fossil fuels.
Using our collectors, a typical solar heating system would reduce a building owner’s fossil fuel heating bill by 30% to 70%, with a two to six year energy cost savings payback, with financing, including Federal and State tax credits. The payback period can be further reduced using accelerated depreciation. A greatly reduced installed system cost means that limited State tax credits are used more effectively.
Hybrid Solar’s collectors and mounting system are designed to meet building code load limits for non-penetrating ballast mounting on flat roof buildings that are off limits to other collector systems. Roof loading below 2lbs/ft² is possible. The collectors are designed to be tilted at a 45° angle for the best balance between solar building heating and minimal wind load ballast weight. Our mounting frame integrates the collectors, ballast blocks, and back sheet to form a symmetrical aerodynamic envelope. Collectors are interconnected by butting & locking them adjacently, with duct components simply attached .
Gross area heat loss is in the low end of the evacuated tube range at 0.1Btu/hft²F but with a much higher Y-intercept of 0.9 and a winter operating efficiency of 88%. Combined with light concentration, a direct drive output and a low thermal mass fast response time, the collectors heat up quickly with low level morning sun and under clouds to sun conditions. This results in up to two extra hours a day of useable heat output. The Seasonal Load Adaptation curvature of our reflectors begins reducing output in April, down to 1/3 mid June and back on full by the end of September. No covering of the collectors is required to prevent overheating. The collectors are nominally 6½ft L by 3½ft H by ½ft D and weigh 35 lbs (specifications are subject to change).
FOR INVESTORS, THE BEST SOLAR INVESTMENT
With one third to one half of fossil fuel use for heat, a multi-$trillion market is waiting, with a growth potential better than solar electric’s peak growth years. Hybrid Solar Systems will be the only competitive player in the building heating market with a cost lower than fossil fuels. Our collectors are highly desirable for the installer and the building owner.
Sales Top Down:
THE PROBLEM: ENERGY COSTS, ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE, OLD TECHNOLOGY
One third to one half of fossil fuel energy cost is for heat. The solar energy market is a fraction of the fossil fuel market and solar heating of buildings is currently a small part of the solar energy market. The European and Chinese markets for Building Solar Heating are highly subsidized using old technology. Hybrid Solar Systems has re-engineered the solar collector for 20+ years of free, clean energy by designing out the long list of problems associated with existing building solar and fossil fuel heating. Environmental degredation and Global Warming are becoming more of a concern and cannot be mitigated without including the solar heating of buildings.
Sales Bottom Up:
We have started preproduction sales. A West Coast solar installer wants our collectors to heat their new building and to advertize our collectors to their customers. An East Coast commercial building owner wants our solar heating collectors and believes that showing them off on their building will be good for their business. A local installer has offered to install this project at cost to generate additional collector sales for their business (and ours). We have connected with many installers eager to purchase our collectors. We believe they can easily sell enough solar heating systems, using our collectors, for us to more than meet our projected sales goals. One installer said “We will be falling all over you to buy your collectors”.
